Generator parts are easy to buy and easy to get wrong. GeneratorRepair.co.za lets you describe the part and your generator once, and independent dealers, spares shops and technicians quote you directly with price, stock and delivery. We do not sell parts ourselves, and asking costs nothing. Whether you need generator parts near me for a weekend fix on a petrol set, or a controller and AVR for a 100 kVA diesel standby, the right match depends on the engine model, alternator type and kVA on the rating plate, so start with a clear photo of it.

Common generator parts people need

  • Service parts: oil, air and fuel filters, spark plugs, belts, water separators and diesel generator service kits
  • Fuel system: carburettors, fuel taps, fuel lines, lift pumps, injectors and fuel solenoids
  • Starting: recoil starters, starter motors, batteries, battery chargers and glow plugs
  • Electrical: AVRs, brushes, diodes, capacitors, outlets and breakers, see generator alternator repairs
  • Control: controllers, auto start modules, sensors and senders for oil pressure and temperature

Finding the right generator parts near me

Send the rating plate photo, the engine plate or model number, and a photo of the old part next to a ruler. Small petrol sets often share an engine family, so a carburettor or recoil may be a cheap pattern part. Diesel parts are more specific. Spares hubs in industrial areas such as Alrode, Germiston and Johannesburg South carry stock for many sets, while farms and small towns rely on courier delivery, typically one to three working days. Imported controllers and AVRs can take two to six weeks.

Original, pattern and second hand generator parts

Original parts fit first time and keep warranties intact. Pattern parts cost less, and quality varies, which matters most with AVRs and injectors. Second hand generator parts from stripped sets are useful for older or discontinued models, canopies, frames and fuel tanks, but ask for a test or return period. As a rough guide, filters cost R80 to R650, a petrol carburettor R250 to R900, an AVR R900 to R6,500, a starter motor R1,800 to R7,500 and a controller R2,500 to R15,000.

Parts only or parts and fitting

Filters, plugs and recoils are fine for a handy owner. AVRs, controllers, injectors and anything on a set wired to the house through a changeover switch are better fitted by a technician, who can also find why the part failed. Say on your request whether you want fitting too, so it can be quoted as generator repairs or a generator service.

What to include in your request

  • Photograph the rating plate and engine plate
  • Photograph the old part beside a ruler
  • Give the kVA size and fuel type
  • Say whether fitting is needed too
  • Give a delivery address and how soon you need it

Generator Parts for different sites

  • Homes: filters, spark plugs, a carburettor or recoil starter for a petrol backup set
  • Estates and complexes: a replacement battery, charger or controller for the body corporate standby set
  • Farms and smallholdings: fuel filters, water separators and injectors for diesel sets on borehole pumps
  • Shops, offices and restaurants: a starter motor or AVR to get the shop's standby generator back in service quickly
  • Factories, mines and sites: controllers, sensors and service kits held as spares for large three phase sets
  • Lodges, venues and events: spare filters and batteries kept on hand at remote lodges far from suppliers
  • Clinics, schools and towers: matched controllers and chargers for clinic, school and tower generators

Frequently asked questions

Do you stock generator parts?
We do not hold stock or sell anything. GeneratorRepair.co.za forwards your parts request, free, to independent spares suppliers, dealers and technicians, and they reply with their own prices, stock and delivery times. You buy directly from whichever supplier you choose, or from nobody at all.
How do I find the part number for my generator?
Look on the rating plate on the alternator or frame, and on the engine plate or casting. Photograph both, plus the old part and any numbers stamped on it. A supplier can usually match the part from those photos even when the generator has no brand on it.
Are cheap generator parts worth it?
For filters, plugs and recoil starters on small petrol sets, pattern parts are usually fine. For AVRs, injectors and controllers, a poor part can damage appliances or the engine, so pay for a known supplier with a warranty, even if it costs more.
Can parts be couriered to a farm or small town?
Yes. Most suppliers courier nationally, usually in one to three working days to towns and a little longer to remote farms. Large items such as canopies, radiators and fuel tanks go by road freight, so ask for the delivery cost with the quote.
