Generators in North West
In North West, generator demand tracks the platinum belt and the cattle and maize country beyond it. Shafts, smelter contractors and hostels around Rustenburg and Brits keep large diesel sets on standby because a halted hoist or ventilation fan is a safety problem, not just lost output. Hartbeespoort's lakeside homes and weekend estates run smaller silent units for lights, gate motors and pool pumps. Out west near Lichtenburg, Vryburg and Mahikeng, farms rely on gensets for boreholes and milking sheds at the end of long, fault-prone lines. Hot, dusty summers and dry winters choke filters quickly, and Pilanesberg lodges want quiet, well-maintained machines.
Typical used generators requests in the area come from:
- Factories, mines and sites: a used high-hour genset for site power or as a second standby set
- Farms and smallholdings: a used three phase diesel genset for the borehole, workshop and cold room
- Homes: a used petrol or small diesel unit for load-shedding backup at a lower price
- Lodges, venues and events: a checked ex-rental silent set for a guesthouse or remote lodge
- Estates and complexes: an ex-rental canopied set for the gate, pumps and common lighting
- Shops, offices and restaurants: a trade-in silent diesel set keeping a shop or office trading
- Clinics, schools and towers: a refurbished standby set for a school, church or small clinic
Local conditions in North West
Local conditions matter: mine and farm dust in long hot summers is a common cause of breakdowns in North West. Specify pre-cleaner air filters, shorter service intervals and a cooling system check, and keep the service record with the generator.
At about 1 250 m above sea level, expect roughly 3% less output than the nameplate rating from a naturally aspirated engine, and summer highs around 31 °C. Used Generators usually covers 2 to 250 kVA, diesel or petrol.
What to include in your request
- Give the size in kVA and the fuel you want
- Say single phase or three phase
- Set your budget and maximum run hours
- Ask about warranty and service history
- Request a load test before you pay
The more detail you give, the more accurate your quote will be.
