Generators in Centurion
Centurion's growth is built on estates and business parks, and both rely heavily on backup power. Midstream, Eldoraigne and the Irene area have homeowners' associations that set rules on generator noise and placement, so silent canopied sets and neat ATS installations are the norm. Office parks along the N1 and the Highveld Techno Park run larger diesel sets for servers and lifts. Lyttelton and Olievenhoutbosch suffer municipal outages and cable theft. Many sets sit idle for months between outages, which leads to flat batteries, stale fuel and seized starter motors, so service contracts and regular test runs are a big part of the work here.
Typical generator hire requests in the area come from:
- Estates and complexes: a hired set keeping the gate, pumps and lights going during a long outage
- Homes: a portable unit hired for a party, renovation or while the home genset is repaired
- Shops, offices and restaurants: standby hire for a shop or office while its own generator is in the workshop
- Factories, mines and sites: site power for cranes, offices and tools, or cover during a plant shutdown
- Clinics, schools and towers: emergency hire for a clinic, school or pump station during a substation failure
- Lodges, venues and events: a silent diesel set with a distribution board for a wedding, festival or film shoot
Local conditions in Centurion
The main thing that wears out generators in Centurion is long idle periods between outages, so ask for a battery trickle charger, fuel stabiliser and a monthly exercise schedule. A set that is looked after for local conditions starts first time when the power goes off.
At about 1 450 m above sea level, expect roughly 5% less output than the nameplate rating from a naturally aspirated engine, and summer highs around 28 °C. Generator Hire usually covers 2 to 500 kVA, diesel, some petrol.
What to include in your request
- Give the hire dates and hours per day
- List the loads, or the kVA you think you need
- Supply the full site address for delivery
- Say whether you need cables and a distribution board
- Ask whether fuel, deposit and damage waiver are included
The more detail you give, the more accurate your quote will be.
